Review: Tebe Lavish and Exfoliating Soap Bar

Hey darlings, how has 2014 been treating you so far? Mine has been pretty hectic with lots of work coming in (which is a good thing of course) :p As we are almost coming to a close of the first month, there's already quite a few events that I've been to, and work is really starting to pick up! But let's take some time off first, and read about what I think of two new products that I have acquired recently, the Tebe Lavish and Exfoliating Soap Bar

In the olden days, before the advancement of technology has brought us much variations in soaps, be it liquid or dry, people have been using bar soaps since time immemorial (5000 years ago!). If biology class serves me right, soap in the olden days was made from animal fats and vegetable oils (still is, actually!). I read somewhere that the Early Romans made soap out of urine! Isn't it a good thing that we don't make soaps out of that anymore? Or are we? Hmmm....

Anyway I digress :p

When I was searching for a birthday present for TBP Mamasan Tammy Lim, I came across Skintopic and decided to get something from there for her. The salesgirl recommended that I get the Tebe Soap Bar for her, and I was a bit skeptical at first, but she insisted that I try it out first, so that I would know that it's really good. And I have to admit, my skin felt really different after trying it out, so I took the plunge, and got it! (I even got the set for Mamasan as well, cos I know she will definitely appreciate it :))

Oh recognise the bottle of Linden Leaves at the side? It's the famed Body Oil, that I got from Skintopic as well :) Wrote a review about it here, so just click it to read it! *click*

So let's start off with the first product, the Lavish Soap Bar :)

Lavish Soap Bar (RM75/ 170g)

To moisturise, cleanse and refresh your skin. Tebe’s triple milled Lavish Soap Bar with olive leaf extract contains a blend of extra virgin olive oil and natural waxes that will produce a rich, creamy lather. pH balanced and lightly scented, your skin will feel soft, moisturised, cleansed and refreshed.

Use daily to help cleanse and hydrate your skin. The mild formulation of this bar makes it suitable for face and body. For external use, and is beneficial for all skin types.

*I love that they have taken the extra step to wrap the soap in its own paper wrapping*

It's so huge!!!! hahaha when I first started using it, my hand couldn't even hold the bar properly and I was actually quite worried that I would drop it. Like, my fingers will be splayed out in order to grab on to the soft corners, and I would soap myself REALLY SLOWLY cos if I really did drop the bar, I WILL CRY. So in the end I cut it into four quarters :)

The texture of the soap is very soft, and after I cut it I had to hold it very carefully to avoid it from crumbling. But after using it the first time, the soap will stick back together and it is as good as new! The power of water I tell you :D So be very careful when you cut it ya :)

According to the sales girl, after long usage, it can actually reduce the dark lines around your inner arms, your armpits, and other crease areas. It is also said to be able to help with eczema prone skin, and upon hearing that, I took another one for my sister as well (I know, I am such a shopaholic >.<)

But you know one thing that I absolutely love about the soap bar? The smell! It has this really delicate flowery scent that's not overpowering and everytime after I bathe with it, I feel like my body is thoroughly cleansed and I have just walked through a field of flowers. Not sure if that's how olives smell like (as it's made from olive oil right) cos I don't eat olives :p

So moving on to the exfoliating soap:

Exfoliating Soap Bar (RM75/ 170g)

The Exfoliating soap helps to stimulate your skin's natural surface. Gently removing dull, lifeless skin, this triple milled, pH balanced blend of ultra-fine olive pips, olive leaf extract, extra virgin olive oil and natural waxes will help to keep your skin moisturised and refreshed.

Use daily to help cleanse and hydrate your skin. The mild formulation of this bar makes it suitable for face and body. For external use, and is beneficial for all skin types. After using the exfoliating soap however, I would prefer not to use it on my face as the olive kernels are actually quite harsh, even on my body.

So what did I think for both the soaps overall?

Verdict:8.5/10. I love it! I love the smell of the soaps, and I love how my skin is more supple and soft after using it.

Repurchase:Yes for both

Pros
  • Super nice smell that's not overpowering
  • You get really soft and supple skin after using it
  • Easy to lather
  • Easy to rinse
  • Doesn't leave my skin feeling dry and taut

Con
  • Size quite big
  • Texture very soft, so hard to cut (you will need to be very careful)
  • The olive kernels for the exfoliating soap are a little harsh, so you will need to use very little force on your skin while using it

Til the next time, stay beautiful!

Review: Sephora CC Care + Color

There's a new product in Sephora (actually I'm not sure if it's new or not but this is the first time I'm seeing it), and it's the CC Care and Color cream! As I'm a fan of CC Creams, I was walking around Sephora browsing for a face cream that's not a foundation and all the other BB or CC Creams are all so expensive! I was about to give up when I chanced upon the Sephora CC Cream, and I thought to myself, I HAVE TO GET IT!

Sephora CC Care + Color (30ml/ RM69)

You know what's the best part? It's not super expensive (at RM69 it's really quite affordable considering it's a Sephora product), so I decided to take the plunge :)

List of ingredients listed on the product :) Got it also because it's paraben free.

These are its claims, and when I read it I was significantly impressed, though I imagine I shouldn't be considering that's what other CC Creams claim to have as well. So? Challenge accepted!

When I opened the packaging, the bottle is exactly the same as what's drawn on the box. What I love about this is that it's a vacuum pump. :) I have mentioned before that I love vacuum pumps because you don't waste the product as much if it's a normal pump bottle and it looks so innovative! I always love to see the dial come up when the product is dispensed.

The bottle itself is clear, and you can see two swirls of colour, which are white and cream. I would imagine the white colour is the sunscreen and skincare while the cream are the colour pigments for the cream. Therefore, Care = White swirl, and Color = Cream swirl

Here's the back of the bottle, nothing extraordinary about it, just instructions on how to use it. If you noticed from the front part of the bottle, it has SPF20 so you can use it without putting on sunscreen :)

Another thing that prompted me to purchase this product is that it comes in a universal shade. That way, you don't have to worry about getting the wrong colour for your skintone. So lets put this to the test.

This is the amount that comes out for half a pump. So one full pump is enough for my entire face, and that's great cos I don't have to estimate how much I need to pump and there will be less wastage involved. Check out the fine lines on my hands.

After blending it in for a bit, you can see the blend of the white and cream product,  and after blending it in, you don't see it anymore (pic below)

And here's the proof after testing it out on my hand. The fine lines are less visible, and the colour doesn't veer off too drastically from the skintone of my hand. After a while, The product absorbs into my skin and doesn't feel sticky to the touch, so that's a major plus point from me, because I don't like my face to be sticky after applying face creams.

I used it out after that, and I really liked how it felt on my skin. It's lightweight, and covers all my red spots and pores. My skin looked really flawless and I didn't even need to use concealer around my eyes! The pic above me just me using the CC Cream and minimal makeup for eyebrows, eyeliner, and lipgloss :)

The only few things that I didn't really like was that it smells like sunblock. I don't like putting sunblock on my face for precisely the smell, so it was kind of a little turn-off for me. Also, it doesn't control the oil and shine on my face, so after a few hours, I could see that my face was oily and I had to use a facial blotter. It doesn't stay very long as well, so if you were to go out in the middle of the day, you would need to reapply it :(

Verdict: 7/10

Repurchase: Yes

Pros
  • Gives smooth and even complexion
  • Covers redness, pores and fine lines
  • Universal shade so you don't have to worry about picking the wrong shade for your skintone
  • Not very expensive considering it's a Sephora product
  • Absorbs easily with no oily residue (at first)

Cons
  • Doesn't control oil and shine
  • Smells like sunblock
  • Doesn't stay on very long

I hope my review was helpful to you :) Would you get this CC Care + Color for your daily makeup routine? Let me know in the comments section below!

Hello darlings :) with Chinese New Year around the corner and most of us already starting to clean house in preparation for the upcoming festivities, it is only fitting that we should treat ourselves to something nice once in a while :)

The different sauces that complement the curries

Fish Head Salmon Curry

Personally for me, what better way to treat ourselves than to treat ourselves to the Curries of the World in Prince Hotel? In my experience, I always thought that curry is a delicacy that is made famous and originated from India. But I was pleasantly surprised when I heard that there are many other curries available in other parts of the world!

Pepper Chicken Curry

Curry has a very rich history and is found in all corners of the world. Each notable country such as Thailand, Indonesia, Germany, and even the United States have developed their own version of the delicate dish, and each of them has their selling points.

Bebek Menyatnyat

Country Captain Curry

Country Captain Curry, a very special curry that originated in the Americas and is one of the staples of military men when they go to war. This dish is included in Military Meals, in Easy-To-Eat packs. According to history, it is the favourite dish of George S. Patton.

The ever famous Green Curry, and this is no different! Originating from Thailand, it is spicy and tingles my tastebuds right down to my toes!

This here is part of the ingredient for Currywurst, the German brand of their own curry. It is a piece of sausage that is laden with a tomato based curry and is widely consumed in Germany

Apart from enlightening us with the many different versions of the curries available everywhere, we were also given the opportunity to witness the cooking of two distinct curries that are loved by the people of that region. This cooking session is available every night during the curry promotion, and visitors and patrons can enjoy these dishes that are cooked fresh for them. Every night, different curries will be featured, so you can go every night to enjoy the way they cook different curries! :)

One of the dishes featured that night was the black pepper curry chicken.

Unfortunately, I forgot the ingredients needed for the curry, but it was really very simple >.< After adding all the ingredients into the bowl, leave it to marinate for about half an hour (or more) and you can then put everything into the wok and fry it!

Ingredients to cook the famous Country Captain Curry :D Check out the video below on how to cook it!

So want to explore the curries of the world? Head over to Eccucino @ Prince Hotel and Residence from today till 30th January 2014 for a scrumptious buffet dinner with a whole host of curries from all over the world. Take your pick of curries from India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia and Thailand. And if you have not tasted Country Captain Curry or Currywurst, well this is a chance for you to experience it!!!

The Curries of the World promotion at Eccucino is priced at only RM98++ per person and children under 12 dine complimentary.

The best part of all this? If you partake in the current Curry Promotion, Eccucino has a special running promotion for Tiger Radler, the refreshing fruity lemon beer @ RM12++ per bottle.

Event: Yadah New Year New You

Happy Chinese New Year!!!!! In my first post for February, I would like to bring to you an event that I have attended recently from a very famous brand, Yadah! Did you know, that Yadah actually means grateful in Hebrew? I didn't know that until Missy pointed it out to me.

Yes, there are many things that I am grateful for in life, and the new year has brought closer to home my resolutions for the year.

Thanks to TBP, I got the invitation to attend Yadah's New Year New You event last January, where we were introduced to a few of their new products that were recently launched, and we got to test them out!

The event was held at Little Wonton, a quaint little place that serves delicious charcoal noodles :) It's located in TTDI, new 99 Supermart, on the first floor. When you come up the steps, you will see the Little Wonton sign, and you will be hit with a sense of nostalgia, as they have decorated the place to the nines with 'Shanghai Noon' feel.

We were given these fliers to help us understand a little bit more about the products that we will be trying out, and we were asked to provide our feedback for the products that we have tested.

Yadah actually booked the whole  place for us butterflies, and the decoration that day was awesome! There were lanterns hung everywhere, and we later found out that it was not just for decoration. At the end of the event, we were asked to pick a lantern and write our New Year's resolution on the back of it :)

Not surprisingly, I got the pink one!!!! :D We were asked to hang on to those lanterns because at the end of the year (or the beginning of next year), we might be asked to do something with it! All so exciting, and I am anticipating what Yadah has in store for us at the end of the year :D

There were a lot of Yadah products on display that day, and we got to try their bestselling product, the Bubble Deep Cleanser (far left). It comes in a pump bottle, and when you pump it out, the product comes out in bubble form.

 Source: my Insta :) *click*

We were given two types of eyeliners to try it out. Gel type (smiley face), and liquid liner. As you can see in the insta pic above, you just need a little bit of foam. Just rub gently on the liner (as demonstrated by Amelie), and after a while of gently massaging, you will notice that the foam has turned darker, and become more grayish. Wipe (or wash) it off gently, and voila! All the eyeliner has disappeared! Yes, including the gel one :D This is a super awesome product!

I tried it out on my eyes that night, and lo and behold, it really works on my eyes :) The trick with this is that you cannot be impatient and expect it to rub off instantly. You need to gently rub it for about a minute and when you are done, just rinse and you will get a super clean face after that, without the drying effect :)

Yadah also has an anti-acne range, which is called the Anti-T range which stands for Anti-Trouble. Jennifer uses their Anti Trouble Spot Cream, and according to her, it works wonders! And after trying out their Bubble Deep Cleanser, I'm inclined to believe her :)

The Yadah Moisturising Cactus Mist (Fruit Garden) can be used for added natural skin hydration be it outdoors or indoors. It permeates easily into the epidermis and works for 24 hours. This product contains the botanical extracts of Opuntia Ficus, betaine from sugar cane and glycerine to condition and moisturise skin especially in an air-conditioned dry environment or under the sun.

Key ingredient Opuntia Ficus is a unique cactus species organically grown and cultivated in Korea known for its strong anti-inflammatory and high potent anti-oxidant benefits that also improves the retention of moisture in the skin. According to Yadah, it can be used as a substitute for your daily skin lotion, both night and day.

Yadah's Angel BB Cream is a multi-function cream that acts as a moisturizer, sun block, anti-wrinkle, concealer, make-up primer, skin brightener & oil control cream. It is 100% hypo allergenic, and is non comedogenic. It contains botanical vitamins such as vitamin E, and blends into the skin to correct the skin tone naturally with sheer velvety smooth texture to conceal blemishes & discoloration of the face. It has a fresh & light texture, and is suitable for all skin types, even sensitive skin to create a healthy & radiant complexion.

Before the event started, there was a lot of camwhoring around :p I'm glad to be able to continue my beauty journey with all these beautiful girls, and I look forward to continue this journey with all of you til the end!

Our dear Yadah rep, Ms. Elaine, got the event rolling, and pretty soon, we were introduced to the wonderful world of Yadah. Yadah only uses natural and organic ingredients, and is 100% free from parabens, artificial colouring,

All the products that we were given to test out that day!!!

Left: 01 Sweet Cherry
Right: 02 Sweet Pinky

This tint gives both lips and cheeks a sweet tint that's either a little red (cherry), or pinkish (pinky). It has fruit extract as the main ingredient, containing a sweet fragrance and natural color. It is allergy-free, non-sticky, and non-greasy.

What I like about this tint is that it stays on for a very long time. I tried the Sweet Cherry on my hand for a while, but after I rubbed off the product, I could still see the tint stain on my hand. Don't believe me? Just scroll back up to my insta pic where I was demonstrating the Bubble Deep Cleanser, and you can see the stain quite clearly :)

Highlash Mascara

Other  new products in the Yadah range are the Highlash and Bloom Mascara. These products are 100% Free of Parabens, talc, artificial fragrance, and sulphate surfactants. Even though they are water-resistant, they can be easily removed with lukewarm water, which is a plus point for me because I wouldn't want to rub hard on my eyelashes and risk them falling out. I want a mascara that is easy to remove :)

The Highlash Mascara extends the lash length while providing a smudge-free definition that is water-resistant.

Bloom Mascara

The Bloom Mascara gives a more superior lash volume and length without smudging, and is water-resistant.

So how do you want to gain super long eyelashes with a high amount of volume? Use them both together!

One of their new products was the Sunscreen, and this was actually the highlight of the day. We were given three samples of sunscreen to try, labeled A, B, and C respectively.

When we tried out the sunscreen, here's what I thought:

A: pleasant smell, but a little too watery for me
B: Strong sunscreen smell (not my type), and doesn't absorb very easily
C: pleasant smell, absorbs easily

After trying on all the three products, we were asked which one we liked best. Not surprising, I loved product C the most.

So what are the brands of these products?

A: Yadah Sun Cream (SPF40/ PA++) ~ old version of Yadah's sun cream
B: Expensive Sunblock that costs RM100+ ~ sorry I forgot the name. Definitely a Korean brand though
C: Yadah Oh My Sunblock  (SPF35/ PA++) ~ Their newest and latest product

The Yadah Oh My Sunblock costs RM36 for a 50ml tube. If you noticed, the SPF formulation was dropped from 40 to 35 because it will contain a lower level of zinc, which is harmful to the skin. And we found out that having a higher SPF doesn't necessarily mean that you will get more protection from the sun. It just means you can stay out in the sun a little while longer, but just a little.

I was most impressed with the Oh My Sunblock, and was thrilled when they gave us a little travel tube to try out :)

Left to Right: 01 Cherry Red, 02 Shiny Peach, 03 Sugar Pink and 04 Bling Bling Yellow

The last product we were asked to try out was the Yadah Lip Tint Balm which is able to bring out the natural colour of your lips. It is uniquely formulated with a melting gel complex ingredient which dissolves under human body temperature to keep lips naturally soft and hydrated. Enriched with cupuacu butter, shea butter, sunflower seed oil and jojoba oil which act as natural lip conditioners in combination with tomato, gromwell and moroheiya for its natural colour pigments.

The lip tint balms are available in 4 flavours in a typical Yadah collectible pot. They are 01 Cherry Red, 02 Shiny Peach, 03 Sugar Pink and 04 Bling Bling Yellow which is colourless.

And to show how effective the lip tint was, there was a challenge where they invited two butterflies up to try it on, and then finish a bowl of noodles in under 15 seconds. The one who manages to win the challenge will get to bring back a prize! So the bell rang, and Jennifer finished everything in time! Memang superwoman lo that lady.

After all the excitement was over, they were asked to show us their lips and true enough, the lip tint colour was still there!

And after that was eating time!!!!!! There were two flavours of charcoal noodles which was Spicy Thai, and Garlic Vinegar :D No surprise which one I chose :D

To quench our thirst, we were given green tea :)

Some of the other butterflies there that day :) Loved hanging out with them. I've learnt a lot from them, and we have also shared many experiences.

I love the lighting at Little Wonton :) It's so pretty and aesthetically pleasing :)

All these products are now out in stores, and if you happen to pass by any SaSa outlet, please do not hesitate to head in there and try them out!

I would like to take this opportunity to give special thanks to dear Mamasan Tammy for making all this possible for me :) Without her I would not have so many opportunities to meet so many awesome people and try out all these products.

The goodies we got from the Yadah event

Oh and you know what the best thing was? We were featured in Utusan Malaysia!

Thank you Yadah for the opportunity, and thanks TBP for making this all happen!

Til the next time, stay beautiful!

Celebrate Double Happiness with Grand Seasons Hotel

$
0
0
Every year on Valentine's Day, couples head out to fancy restaurants and the men try their best to get "out of this world" presents for their womenfolk to show how much they love them.

Wok Fried prawns with Patong Sauce

So it definitely doesn't help matters that this year's Valentine's Day falls on the very special Chap Goh Meh celebration which signifies the end of the Chinese New Year celebrations, and also is, incidentally, considered the Chinese Valentine's Day! It is a special occasion that only happens once every 19 years, but I have heard other people say that it happens every 80 years, so I'm not really sure which one is the right one, but in essence, it's a celebration that doesn't come along very often! :P

In conjunction with this year's double celebration, Grand Seasons is celebrating double happiness with their patrons with the special and exclusive Chap Goh Meh & Valentine's Day Buffet, happening ONLY on 14th February 2014!

In keeping with the Chinese New year tradition, Grand Seasons also offers the Salmon Yee Sang to patrons shaped in two delicate hearts. Just looking at the Yee Sang makes me feel sorry that I have to eat it cos it's so beautiful.

This Chinese New Year, there are a variety of chinese dishes served up on Friday, and the more famous dishes include the Deep Fried Home Style Garoupa. It comes with a spicy thai style sauce, and the fish is cooked just right.

Stir Fried Prawn in Shrimp Spicy Paste

The prawns are cooked in a special shrimp paste that is not too spicy and gives off a delicious savoury taste when bitten into. The prawns are not overcooked, making it juicy and tender to the bite. Definitely something you must put on your plate when making your rounds in the buffet line.

Other items on the menu are:
Wok Fried XO Mussel Infused Bird Eye Chilli
Traditional Baked Beggar Chicken
Stew Sea Cucumber Reunion Prow Choy
Fried Ngah Ku with Rainbow Vegetable

To go down the food menu, Grand Seasons offers various mouthwatering appetizers to open up the palate this Valentine's Day.

Smoked Salmon with Caper on Spoon

This makes a great appetizer for most people cos, who doesn't love salmon? It's also smoked so for those who don't eat sashimi, don't worry, you can still try this out.

Smoked Chicken Breast

The Chicken breast was salty to the taste, and when taken together with the seaweed, they both really complemented each other as the seaweed was not overly seasoned.

 Seafood Cocktail on Glass

This was by far my favourite appetizer for the night as it has all my favourite ingredients in it. There are prawns and some fish roe and mini olives, all on a bed of lettuce, and a very thinly cut slice of orange to give it that tangy taste.

Other appetizers on display include Chinese Cold Cut 4 Types on Dragon Stand, Butcher Palate,  Assorted Maki Roll, Avocado Cheese salad, Herring on Glass, Tomato Kanistick Salad, Bell Pepper Sausage Salad, Potato Mushroom Vinaigrette, Fresh Seafood on Ice, Sashimi, Sushi Assorted, and Jo Ho Char on Local Lettuce

There was also the salad bar where they had many different condiments available for the patrons. Offerings include; fresh Highland mixed Local Lettuce, Asparagus Carrot, Japanese Cucumber, Red Cabbage, Garlic & shallot Confit, Black olive, Green Olive, Sundried Cherry Tomato Shaving - Parmesan, Herb Croton, Bacon Bit, and Kernel Corn Salsa.

One great thing I saw was the Rojak Buah-buahan station, which is a rarity in most hotel chains. The moment I saw this, I knew I had to try it out and I helped myself to a small portion of what was on display.

All in all, the rojak sauce was not too sweet and overpowering. I finished this in only a few minutes. If you were to head over to Grand Seasons this Friday, be sure to check out the rojak station. I assure you, you wouldn't be disappointed :)

Stew Lamb Cutlets with Sauce

Apart from keeping with our Eastern tradition, Grand Seasons also offers us a range of western cuisines, amongst which are Stewed Lamb Cutlets with Sauce. The lamb was very lightly seasoned and when you bit into it, you could taste the slightly burnt charred taste which adds to its appeal :)

There are also other dishes such as:
Grilled Saba Fish Fillet Teriyaki
Assorted Mushroom Baked Cannelloni Gra’tin
Vichy Carrot & Garden Green
Herb Marinated Beef Skewer on Smoked Gravy
Roasted Turned Potatoes with Bean

For the more adventurous, there's a carvery station where they have Roast Duck and Grilled Chicken and Beef that you can carve off to your heart's content.

Calling all pasta lovers!!!! You will definitely love this station where you can cook your own pasta, and layer them with your favourite sauces! No surprise for me, I took some fusilli and then proceeded to drench them in the mushroom cream sauce. Two-thumbs up from me!

Rendang Hati Lembu Tok Su

For anyone who says that Chap Goh Meh are only for the Chinese, you are sorely mistaken. As we live in a multi-cultural society, we all celebrate festive seasons together, and what better way to do so than through food? In celebration of this, Grand Seasons also prepared various Malay Style dishes, amongst which are:

Curry Ayam Debal
Ikan Tenggiri Asam Manis Berkuah
Rendang Hati Lembu Tok Su
Patelis Terung Seri Rampai
Nasi Putih

Top row: Beef, Chicken, Lamb
Bottom row: Prawns, Squids, Fish

Healthy eaters are also not left out this time around, as there is a special live-show kitchen 'on-air' over the course of the night which serves a variety of meats and seafood, teppanyaki style.

Ningko (or Nian Gao) is a very popular dish during the Chinese New Year season, and Grand Seasons offers two different types of Deep Fried Ningko, which is either fried with sweet potato, or Yam. Both are delicious, so be sure to try it!

Variety of Mousse and Jelly in Mini Glass

There was an Ice Kacang station that we could create our very own version of the beloved local dessert. For me, I have always loved corn, so I went to work just adding on some sea coconuts, evaoprated milk, and some syrup to the mix. The end result? delectable sweetness that is just right for my sweet tooth :)

For the lovers out there, don't worry about not being able to celebrate Valentine's day, because everyday IS Valentine's Day right? *wink* But if you still want to celebrate, then Grand Seasons has got that covered because they have Strawberry Cheese Cakes to enjoy together.

Our last dessert for the evening, intricately designed mandarin oranges, decorated with chocolate coins that were edible! We were all so fascinated with the chocolates that some of us even took them home. When I bit into the chocolate, I was pleasantly surprised that they tasted like really good quality chocolate, and not the overly-sweet ones that you will usually find in other places.

Other delicious offerings that we had that night was the not-to-be-missed Japanese station where there were many assortments of Maki Rolls, Fotomaki, Salads and of course the ever popular Salmon Sashimi :)

You should also try out the different soups that they had, which are the Fish Maw with Five Treasure Soup, and the Roasted Golden Pumpkin Soup. The fish maw soup had a tangy taste to it that reminded me a little bit of the sour and spicy soup that I love so much, and this was definitely something that I would come back for again in the future.

So if you're looking for a place to celebrate with your loved ones this Chap Goh Meh & Valentine's Day, head no further than Seasons Cafe at the Grand Seasons Hotel where you can enjoy all these delectable dishes at only RM78++ per person. It's a good deal to be able to enjoy all these for a reasonable price :)

Seasons Cafe is located at the Ground Floor of the Hotel, and for reservations, kindly contact the friendly hotel staff at 03- 2697 8888 or email them at reservations@grandseasons.com.

Review: Mivva Box February 2014 Edition

$
0
0
So the latest (and possibly last) box for Mivva is now here and has finally arrived on my doorstep last week. For me it was a bittersweet moment as I have had a long relationship with Mivva, and I have always loved their boxes.

When I received the box, I felt like it was an end of a chapter in my life that involved Mivva and their beauty boxes, and I was quite excited to open it to discover what new products await me in this box.

But when I finally did, I was disappointed. The box felt so hollow, and it gave me the feeling that they were just throwing things together without thought just for the sake of sending out a Mivva Box.

What do you think of the contents?

So in this month's Mivva box, we have the usual five items. Yes, five items, and yet the box still leaves much to be desired.

What's in the list?

1. Bloop 100% Mineral Eyeshadow (RM38/ piece) - one piece
2. Ezee Beauty Collagen Drink (RM14.90/ bottle) - one bottle
3. UGB Peeling Gel (RM145/100ml) - two sachets
4. UGB Aqua Cream (RM145/ 50g) - two sachets
5. Lycoz Aloe Vera Oriental Prime Hydrogel Mask (RM19.90/ piece) - one piece

Bonus Items:
1. O'slee Advanced Formula III - 30ml bottle
2. RM15 voucher for Lycoz products

Personally for me, and I repeat, I felt that the products in this box are not well thought out and are put together just for the sake of sending out a Mivva Box. It just doesn't give me the impression that this is a box that has been carefully planned for. I mean, just two sachets for the UGB products? I won't even be able to feel their efficacy after just two uses. I remember last time, Mivva would give us at least five sachets of products if it was in sachet form.

Same goes for the collagen drink as well. I wouldn't expect to find five bottles in there, but at least two or three would be nice. After all, isn't this about the experience of trying out something so that we would know whether we liked it or not before we buy it?

Next the Lycoz voucher. I'm fine with the RM15, after all, of course they would give you a lower value of voucher to be used so that you will at least spend a little money when buying their products. But what I don't understand are the terms and conditions. For item 7, what do they mean by seasons? And it was hard trying to search for their products :( There was no mention of their website, or even places where we can get their products.

My last gripe? the printing of the description card. I know it's a small thing to be upset about, but I loved looking at the pictures that came with the card, and now it's just a one sided printing of only the products. No effort whatsoever:(

Every month, Mivva would give boxes with themes in them, but this box doesn't have any theme whatsoever. The only thing I can think of, would be beauty. But, having just beauty is something we can all say is a pretty standard thing for beauty boxes. Because they were always so great with coming up with themes, this one came up pretty short :(

It's disappointing for me to receive a box like this, as I would have wanted to get a more substantial box.

Having said all of that, I like the Bloop eyeshadow, and the pearlescent white shade was a colour that I wanted in a while, so that's the only positive that I can draw from it.

Did you receive this month's Mivva Box as well, and what did you think of it? Let me know in the comments section below.

Review: Etude House Collagen Moistfull Water Filler

$

I'm back, and this time I will be reviewing a skincare product from Etude House, the new Collagen Moistfull Water Filler.

Now that the rainy season is over, the hot hot hot sun is back again :( and it's easy to lose moisture from your skin, so much so that your skin will feel dehydrated in just a short while of being under the heat. In this season, it's always important to stay hydrated, and replenish the moisture in your skin, which is why I use the Etude House Collagen Moistfull Water Filler :) This is one of the products that I got from my Etude House haul that my friend got for me from Taiwan, and since I started using it, my skin has never been the same.

Now, what's so interesting about this product is that it consists of a two layer product of gels, which are hyaluronic acid and collagen cream. When applied the product replenishes thirsty skin with its Baobab Water (Adansonia Digitata Fruit Extract), which has excellent moisturising capabilities. Apart from the baobab fruit extract,  it also contains 696.5mg collagen. I would have expected a little bit more collagen though, as they have already named their product Collagen Moistfull. But still, it's higher than industry standards of about 500mg collagen in any product

As you can see in the ingredient list,  there are no parabens and phtalates :)

If you look closely, the product inside is arranged in a spiral so that when you pump out the product, both of the gel layers come out in an even layer. The arrangement of the product is more or less like the Sephora CC Cream that I wrote about previously, but of course in a more sophisticated way.  I loved that the product comes in a vacuum pump, because then you can ensure that you get every single drop of product as opposed to a normal pump bottle where you might not be able to get to the very last drop of product.

The entire bottle is plastic (even the pump), so you don't have to worry if you accidentally drop it (touch wood) :p It is not a screwcap bottle, so you just have to pop the cover when you want to use it.

This is how the product looks like on my hand (one pump), as you can see, the two gel layers are quite visible, one being translucent while the other one has a whitish hue. I would say the translucent layer is the hyaluronic acid, and the collagen layer is the whitish one (though I might be wrong).

When you warm the product and apply it on your face, the texture of the water filler is very watery (true to its name), and absorbs very easily. After just a while of applying it on my skin, I can feel that all the moisture has been absorbed, and it doesn't leave any sticky residue! The baobab water retains moisture for hours, taking care of the skin and not drying it out.

Don't be fooled by the little amount. One pump is enough for your entire face and neck :)

Thanks to the super awesome shopkeepers in Taiwan, I got this Collagen Moistfull travel set as a complimentary set to my Water Filler. So every night, before I apply all these, I would apply the water filler first, before using the essence and cream.

I've been using it for a few weeks, and I must say, my skin feels very moisturised, and not as dry as it used to be. The product works, and I am glad I decided to get it. It is able to deliver moisture deep inside my skin, and my skin feels more revitalised and moisturised.

Verdict: 7.5/10

Repurchase: Yes

Pros
  • Delivers its promise of retaining moisture in my skin
  • Absorbs into skin very easily
  • Water based so definitely doesn't clog pores
  • No sticky residue after application
  • Comes in a plastic bottle, so it's break-proof

Cons
  • Might be too expensive for some people

The Collagen Moistfull Water Filler is available at all Etude House outlets for a price of RM119.90 for a 50ml bottle. One bottle can last you a long way, most probably about three to four months, so it's a pretty sound investment. :)

So, would you get a Water Filler for yourself? let me know in the comments section below! :)

Til the next time, stay beautiful!

Review: Sleep better with Rilax Zzz®

$

The haze is back! and with the smokey air, it's hard to get a decent night's sleep. Personally for me, I feel that it's hard to breathe, and my chest always feels smothered :( These days, instead of getting a restful sleep,I always wake up tired and out of sorts at the start of a new day.

While most of us can function on only a few hours of sleep, it's been ingrained us that we need to have at least 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep a day in order to be fully rested. So why do we need to sleep? For one thing, sleep gives our body a chance to recuperate from the previous day's activities, but really, we have to sleep because it is essential to maintaining normal levels of cognitive skills such as speech, memory, innovative and flexible thinking. In other words, sleep plays a significant role in brain development.

But there are also such thing as good sleep, and bad sleep, and when you wake up from a bad sleep, you feel disoriented, and moody. Much like waking up on the wrong side of the bed, if you will. That's why, Livelife has come up with a product that can help you to sleep better, and that's RilaxZzz®!

Rilax Zzz® is an all-natural supplement for improving sleep quality, especially deep REM sleep - a product of LiveLife BioSciences AG, Switzerland. It offers a safe alternative sleep aid to pharmaceuticals as the ingredients are natural functional ingredients with scientifically proven benefits, safe, no side effects and non-habit forming. Rilax Zzz® works by helping the user to relax, fall asleep and experience a night of deep REM sleep.

Rilax Zzz®z contains two scientifically proven natural ingredients:
- Lactium®, a unique bioactive decapeptide within a milk protein hydrolysate that helps regulate stress cortisol levels, and
- L-Theanine, an amino acid from green tea that has calming properties and increases alpha brainwaves during sleep.

So how do we know that Rilax Zzz® really works? There was a clinical study conducted on Tokyo on 32 subjects with insomnia by a team of scientists from the Sleep Centre, University Hospital of Geneva, Switzerland, the Laboratoire de NeuroSciences Comportementales, France and the Ashikaga Institute of Technology, Japan. They published their findings in The Open Sleep Journal (2009:2) showed that Lactium helped a majority of participants to fall asleep faster, as well as significantly improve various aspects of sleep disorders. Results indicated improvement in sleep quality after two weeks of supplementation, along with decreases in sleep latency and daytime dysfunction after four weeks of supplementation.

Rilax Zzz®'s green tea extract contains natural L-Theanine, an amino acid that has documented relaxing effect. It is able to initiate an alpha brain wave pattern that signifies a relaxed physical and mental state without drowsiness or impaired motor skills. Studies also confirmed that this ingredient improves the quality of sleep by allowing our mind to fully relax and recuperate. Subjects in the studies did not report feeling groggy and felt refreshed and alert upon waking.

The Rilax Zzz® pack comes with 30 pills, and costs RM108. It also comes with a free contoured sleep mask (worth RM38)

Taken an hour before bedtime, both natural ingredients in Rilax Zzz work synergistically to promote deeper, restful sleep by improving the overall quality and length of sleep.

It is suitable for those experiencing sleep problems due to stress, menopause, old age, jet lag and shift work, and is also convenient for travels.

Rilax Zzz is safe, non-habit forming, have no side effects and does not cause grogginess when you wake up.

Thanks to Livelife, I was given a month's worth of  Rilax Zzz®to try out, and I have to say,  I was a bit skeptical at first, cos I thought that it would be hard to change ones sleep patterns and how can a small pill make me sleep easier. But I was wrong. After a few days of taking the pill, I could actually sense that I was more alert in the day, and I could fall asleep better at night. Though I sometimes still wake up too early, it didn't make me moody and groggy, and I could wake up easier and felt more refreshed.

Rilax Zzz®usually comes in a 24 pack box (RM89), but I was given the packaging with the free contoured mask, which has 30 pills, and costed RM108

Personally, I would recommend you to take Rilax Zzz® if you have experienced any discomfort in sleeping or if you have insomnia. This will definitely make you sleep better, and I daresay you will wake up feeling better than the night before.

Verdict:8.5/10

Review: Modbox New Products and Aqua Peeling Face Exfoliating Spray

$

Hey beauty box lovers out there, Modbox has a new selection of products for their beauty box, and you'll be amazed at what they have on offer! Personally, I feel that there's been too many beauty box brands lately, and it's so hard to differentiate between the good and the bad, especially if you do not know what you will get. For me, only two boxes cut it, and that's Bag of Love, and Modbox :)

yes, that's my curious Glen, wanting to have a piece of the action too :p

Modbox has always promised quality products for a low price of only RM9 a box (plus RM6 for delivery) and you pay a total of only RM15 for products that you can select, and know you will love!

Thanks to Modbox, I got a set of their Exclusive Blogger's Kit, and what I got in there blew me away :D I love everything in the box! Want to see what they have?

Ta da!!!!! A total of five products, and the Aqua Peeling Gel was too big for the box, so they actually fit it in as a separate item. I've got two full products, and three deluxe sample sizes :)

As usual, I got the beautifully handwritten note from the lovely people at Modbox :) I always love how they interact with us, and how they pay attention to make the box special for the receiver :)

Dentiste Oral Rinse (380ml/ RM25.90), this is a 50ml sample
Miacare Acne Patch for Day (12 patches/ RM9.90), this is a three patch sample

First up, we have a mouth rinse, and Acne Patch :)

The oral rinse neutralises the pH level in your mouth while increasing saliva flow to clean and reduce bacterial deposit. The result is instant, long-lasting, fresh breath, all day!

I've used it, and I love the aftertaste :D Plus, it's in a small travel bottle that I can bring around with me wherever I go. As I usually have meetings after lunch, I just gargle this in my mouth before I head out, and my breath stays fresh all day long. Oh and did I mention that it tastes minty too?

The acne day patch discreetly hides pimples and is highly invisible, so you can wear it under your make up. Not only that, it also works to absorb all the icky pus at the same time for lightning quick healing. I've tried this patch before, and I must say, I really love it. Because it's a little translucent, it covers my pimples properly and it doesn't even show after I applied my make up :)

Dentiste Plus White Nighttime Toothpaste (160g/ RM25.90)
Shaire London Fragrance Free Dry Shampoo (60ml/ RM35.90)

Featuring 14 natural extracts that are antiseptic and antibacterial, the Dentiste Plus White Nighttime toothpaste naturally increases saliva flow to prevent bacteria from multiplying. Not only will you have fresher morning breath, you will also have healthier gums, cleaner mouth, and better relationships :D Tried this out the moment I got it, and I must say, it really works wonders. I wake up in the morning, and there's no bad breath at all! and the minty taste is not overpowering, making it hard to brush. All in moderation, and definitely something I will recommend to those out there who hates bad breath in the morning :)

Shaire London's Dry Shampoo will cleanse, condition, and reinvigorate your limp, greasy locks. Enriched with seaweed extracts, it also repairs and strengthen roots, while preventing split ends. I've only ever used one other type of Dry Shampoo in my life, and that was Sephora's Dry Shampoo. Wasn't super impressed with it, so I didn't have much faith in this shampoo either. However, after trying it out a few times, I've changed my mind. It ungreases my hair (if you can say so), and I can go on for another few hours without feeling that my locks are dead and limp.

p/s: if you buy the dry shampoo, you will get  a special discount code to buy more of their products! :D *just saying*

Rescare Aqua Peeling Face Exfoliating Spray (150ml/ RM78)

Lastly, this is the product that I have been saving for last. Mostly because I love this product the most out of all the products that they sent to me. Why? read on to find out!

Get rid of dead skin cells that are harbouring blackheads and blemishes with this convenient, easy-to-use face exfoliating spray. Packed with natural plant ingredients, it gently exfoliates while keeping skin moisturised.

Sounds like a generic ad, but I kid you not. It really works!

Okay, so the word spray does  not necessarily mean spray. It's more of a bubble dispenser. Like, your liese Bubble Hair Colour, of the Yadah Bubble Deep Cleanser. When you press down on the pump, the product that comes out is in bubble form, making it easier to apply on your face.

Just apply it on your face, and gently massage your face in a circular motion. You will realise after a while that there are skin particles that will have been sloughed off, and the result will look like the below:

See those little specks of white? Those are the sloughed off dead skin cells and blackheads, etc. What I like about this product is that it's water based, so it doesn't feel oily at all.

And it leaves my skin feeling soft and smooth :D I like that while it sloughs off my dead skin cells, it doesn't totally strip my skin of its moisture. In fact, it feels more supple and moisturised. Of course, it's not to be used as a daily exfoliant, but using it once or twice in a week will definitely bring out your inner shine as the dead skin cells are continuously sloughed away.

Out of all the products in this current box, my favourite has still got to be this one :) The best part is? If you buy this product, you will also get another discount code that will give you a 20% discount if you buy another Rescare product :)

So which product do you think you want to try? let me know in the comments section below!

Til the next time, stay beautiful!

Review: Miss Hana Water Proof Gel Eyeliner

$

0
Did you know, eyeliner was first used in Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia as a dark black line around the eyes? As early as 10,000 BC, Egyptians wore various cosmetics not only for aesthetics but to protect the skin from the desert sun. For the superstitious, research has also speculated that eyeliner was worn to protect the wearer from the evil eye.The characteristic of having heavily lined eyes has been frequently depicted in Egyptian art.

In the 1920s, when Tutankhamun's tomb was discovered, it introduced the use of eyeliner to the Western world. Fast forward a few hundred years, and here we are, wearing eyeliner for aesthetic value, and to pretty up our looks.

Thanks to Natta Cosme, I got a chance to review a type of pencil gel liner, which is the Miss Hana Water Proof Gel Eyeliner. Now, when we talk about gel liners, it usually comes in a pot, where you will have to brush it on, much like the Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Liner.

I was quite surprised that the Miss Hana Gel Liner comes in a pencil form, and I was wondering if it would do the trick, so this is as good a time as any to see if gel liners in pencil form would perform better or otherwise :)

For part of our review, we were sent to different types of the Miss Hana Gel Eyeliner, which is the Night Black, and also the Choco Brown

According to their website, the Miss Hana Water Proof Eyeliner Pen claims to have:

1. Extreme Colour - performing better than the other eyeliner pencils in the market, it delivers evenly coloured lines and achieves excellent colour to create three-dimensional deep eyes.

2. Gelatinous texture - improves your stroke, and moderate gel hardness for smooth gliding on of the liner.

3. Extremely waterproof - it has long time anti-sweat, anti-tears and oil formula to maintain a whole day without smudges. You can even use it to draw cat eyes and it can stay on for a long time.

Ingredient list

At first glance it was hard to differentiate the two different colours cos it comes in the same packaging with tinted covers so it's hard to see the liner inside. But now I've gotten accustomed to it, and I find it very easy for me to pick out which colour I want to use.

The packaging itself looks really nice :) I'll admit, I'm a bit of a sucker for pretty things, and this has certainly gotten my attention. Furthermore, when I held the pencil, it fit very comfortably in my hands.

Using the black liner

When I first used it, I loved how it glides on very smoothly. As it's gel type, the colour payoff was very good. I didn't have to draw the lines multiple times, once was enough as it was very black. So I guess I can check claim number 1 as valid :D

Moving on to claim number 2,  it does have a gelatinous texture that is soft that you do not have to apply too much pressure to line your eyes. This is a very big plus point for me because my eye area is very delicate and I do not want to pull the skin unnecessarily. So I apply the liner with just a small amount of pressure, and I get very defined eyes.

Only one line, and the colour payoff is good

So, claim number 3 is that it is long lasting and water proof. Let's put that to the test :D

The Smudgeproof test:
As with all liners, you need to let it dry before trying to rub it off, so that's exactly what I did. My first thought after I tried to rub the liner off was that it has really good staying power! The colour didn't even budge, and even none of the colour came off, however little.

So, long lasting or not? You tell me :)

The waterproof test:
I held it under running water, and it didn't run at all. Then after that, I rubbed it while it was still wet, and still the colour didn't budge. It only came off a little after I rubbed a little harder, but personally I feel that this is a highly unlikely situation, considering I wouldn't even rub my own eyes that hard.

So yes, I would deduce that it's water proof.

Eyes lined with brown liner :)

Now, no matter how you swatch it and perform the test, it's not fully conclusive until you've actually used it for a whole day. So, I tried it on, and here's what I think:

I love that I can use it to draw cat eyes and the ends are precise as well. The brown colour is not too light, neither is it too dark. The colour is just nice to give my eyes a soft look that I can use for everyday.

For the smudgeproof  test, I would say that a little bit of it did come off at the end of the day, but most of it stayed on that you could still clearly see that I was wearing eyeliner, and it didn't smudge to the bottom part of my eyes. So I would say under these circumstances, it actually performed quite well.

For the water proof test, it didn't come off easily when I splashed it with running water. It only fully came off when I used make up remover. So, as a conclusion, I would say it's about 80% water proof, and at the same time, it's great because I don't have to rub hard with make up remover just to remove it.

For more defined eyes, you can use both these colours. Just use black for the top lid, and brown to lightly line the bottom. Trust me, you will get eyes that stop people in their tracks :D

So, in a nutshell:

Waterproof: It's pretty water proof, only a little bit of it came off when I splashed it with water at the end of a long day.

Smudgeproof: It's quite smudgeproof. Itdidn't smudge to the lower lid of my eyes after a long day.

Staying power: At the end of the day, it doesn't disappear. The liner still stays on and is still quite noticeable.

Verdict:7.5/10

Repurchase:Yes

Additional Comments: Personally, this is one of the better pencil liners that I've tried in my lifetime (and I have tried a lot). It stays on my eyes smudgeproof the whole day, but comes off easily with water based make up remover. These two babies are now a staple in my everyday make up bag :D

Price: RM34.90, but you can get it from Natta Cosme for only RM24.90! Check it out here: http://www.nattacosme.com/Miss-Hana-Water-Proof-Gel-Eyeliner

Review: Goku Raku Ramen at Mid Valley

$

Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce to you my eat of the day, a Japanese Chinese fusion that we all love, Ramen :D In 1872, noodles were introduced to Japan from mainland China. Since then, ramen has become a prominent dish in Japan. It is known to be as one of Japan’s staple foods and favoured meal among the locals.

Over the years, ramen has developed into various styles as different regions in Japan created their own special type of ramen, based on distinct soup types. In northern areas such as Sapporo, the Miso soup is a popular choice for ramen, whereas in southern districts like Hakata and Tokyo, the Tonkotsu (pork-based) broth and soy-flavoured ramen dishes are preferred by the locals.

At Goku Raku Ramen, we were introduced to the "Horikiri Style" ramen, discovered by noted ramen connoisseur, Mr. Teruhisa Shimizu. The unique style meshes well with the palatable pork, chicken and fish mixed broth, as well as the Shio (salt) and Shoyu (Japanese soy sauce) soup base specially made by the chef. The broth is simmered for long hours to bring out its exquisite taste and the ramen they serve is made fresh daily with their ramen-making machine.

Our special chef for that day was chef Tetsuya Fukino. He is a master of Japanese-Chinese cuisines, and originates from Utsonomiya. He dishes out delicious Gyoza, and trust me when I say they're really delicious :D

So we had a few dishes that night, and our first dish was the 5-Star Aburi Char Siew Ramen. It is topped with roasted char shiew, spring onion, bean sprout, bamboo shoot, lava egg, and black garlic oil.

Now, as you know, I love anything garlic, and the moment this dish came out, I was attracted to its fragrance. The soup wasn't too salty as most ramen broths are like. For me, it was mild yet fragrant enough, and the char siew was very smooth, not like other ramen shops out there that have overcooked char siew until it was hard and dry. The bamboo shoots are also soft and flavourful :D

Shanghai Fried Ramen RM 13.90

GRR's Shanghai Fried Ramen is stir fried with chives, carrot, cabbage, and bean sprout served with red pickled ginger. This is my favourite dish of all. I love that they have so much cabbage, and the ramen was not over- or undercooked, and it was very fragrant when it was served. Because it was served on a hot plate, the ramen remained hot for a little while longer :)

Ebi Gyoza RM 10.90

Next up is my favourite dish back home, Ebi Gyoza. It's actually pan-fried shrimp, pork lard, and chives dumpling. The dumplings are just as I remember from back home, soft to the bite, with just a hint of vinegar :D

GRR Meatballs RM 5 (5pcs) RM 9 (10 pcs) RM 17 (20pcs)

I think this is perhaps the best dish of the night, for me, at least la. These are pork meatballs, cooked in Japanese miso paste. Some of the other patrons commented it was a little spicy, but for me I didn't feel it. The meatballs itself are quite juicy and soft, unlike normal pork meatballs that are tough and hard. The Japanese miso paste is a type of sweet sauce and after cooking it together, it made for a slightly caramelised shell, and I liked it because I need to get past the shell to the soft centre of the meatballs.

 Course meal set C RM 119.90 (3-4pax)

The last dishes we were served was the course meal set which includes:

Edamame
Aburi Char Siew
Chef Recommended Salad
Pork Loin Rei Shabu
Tori Momo Karaage
Crispy Shrimp Mayo
Ebi Chili
Siew Mai
Sweet & Sour Pork
Utsunomiya Sui Gyoza
Garlic Fried Rice/ Mini Ramen
Today's Dessert
Sesame Ball

I would say that this is a pretty worth it set as the servings are quite big, and you get to try a lot of different types of dishes as opposed to ordering them ala carte. Personally for me I feel that this set is good enough for 4 people, and it has a very big variety of dishes. You get to have the typical chinese dishes like Crispy Shrimp Mayo, and choose between either Garlic Fried Rice or Mini Ramen, both of which are Japanese staples in their own right.

So if you went shopping at Mid Valley in a group of four and are wondering where to fill your tummys, head over to Goku Raku Ramen to order this set. Believe me, you won't regret it.

50% discount for my special readers!

And just because you are my very loyal and awesome readers, I have something special for you! Just print out the voucher below, and you can get 50% of the discounted price for their very special GRR meatballs!

Biomedics 1 day Extra Daily Disposable Lenses, Giving you more health and comfort, every day!

$

I started wearing contact lenses when I was 15 years old. I’ve heard of so many horror stories about using contacts, mostly of people going blind, but I still wanted to use them, thanks to my vain self :p The optometrist kept stressing to me how important it is that I wash my hands before I put on or take out my contact lenses as we are touching a part of our body that relates to one of the five senses, the sense of sight. I remember every time I wanted to put on my contacts, I would wash my hands vigorously and similar as well when I wanted to take them out. I would stand in front of my mirror and strain my eyes to put them on.

BUT, fast forward a few years down the line, and here I am, putting on my contacts and taking them off is like second nature to me. I have come a long way since then, and I have gotten even vainer (if there is such a word) by using coloured contacts! However, as lenses can wear down over time, I find that I have to constantly rewet my eyes cos they feel dry after a few hours. Sometimes, it’s even hard to put them on cos I’ve been working through the night and my tired eyes can’t take the strain from the lenses.

That’s when I decided to take a look at CooperVision lenses, as they have always been on the forefront to develop a wide array of lenses that will be able to adapt to the changing needs of lens wearers. As far as I can see, they have one of the widest ranges of lenses in the industry, so I was pretty sure that they have the right lens for me.

I’ve always used monthly disposable lenses, but definitely, daily disposables are better, and thanks to CooperVision, I was introduced to the Biomedics 1 day Extra daily disposable lenses. This isn’t a new range that CooperVision has come up with, in fact, this is in upgraded version that will give you more comfort and more convenience for an all-day better lens wearing experience.

So, what’s so great about the Biomedics 1 day Extra lenses? You get a 55% water content for your lenses, and comfortable lens wear for up to 11 hours. On top of that, replacing your lenses every day regularly will help to promote good eye health. Perhaps one of the things I love the most about wearing daily disposable lenses, is that you don’t have to worry about the hassle of cleaning and storing your lenses, as you just take them out, and throw them in the bin! Of course, you STILL have to wash your hands before you do it :p

I’ve been using these lenses for a while now, and what do I think of it?

First of all, it was very easy to put them on. When I did, there was no discomfort, and my eyes didn’t feel strained, even though I was working through the night. Due to the nature of my job, I move around the city a lot, and I was in and out of air conditioned places the whole day, but my eyes felt really comfortable, unlike when I was using my other lenses. I didn’t feel like I was wearing the contacts at all, and it’s almost as if I had 20/20 vision again.

Though I still use my coloured contacts for events, I use these for my daily work. After using it for a few weeks, I can feel that my eyes are less dry, and I don't have to rewet my eyes with drops that often. In fact, I can't even remember the last time I rewet them when I was using the Biomedics lenses.

Want to know more about the Biomedics 1 day Extra? Click on the link below to find out!

The additional value about these lenses that there are also Toric lenses for those with astigmatism. A lot of people with astigmatism can't use contacts because the manufacturers don't make astigmatism lenses as there are additional measurements that you need to know to make these lenses and they're a hassle to keep so much of this in stock. But CooperVision understands that these users also want to look better without spectacles, and they have taken the time to manufacture these lenses for those with astigmatism. You can be sure that the Biomedics 1 day Extra Toric lenses’ unique design for superior vision and also designed for day-long comfort.

More info about the Biomedics 1 day Extra Toric available here:

http://coopervision.com.my/contact-lens/biomedics-1-day-toric

So if you’re looking for contact lenses that will keep your eyes healthy and more comfortable, I suggest that you give the Biomedics 1 day Extra a shot. It’s a great pair of lenses to start your lens journey on, and I promise you that you wouldn’t regret it. Being a person that has tried on a lot of different type of lens brands before, trust me when I say these lenses are one of the best.

When I went to my nearest optometry shop, the Biomedics 1 day Extra costs RM80 for a box of 30 lenses. The Biomedics 1 day Extra lenses are available at any optometry shop near you. To know which shops carry these lenses, find out the stores here: http://coopervision.com.my/store-locator

BUT WAIT!

CooperVision is actually on a drive to give you (yes my dear readers, it’s you) a 5-day trial lens, so that you can also enjoy the benefits of seeing the world through the CooperVision Biomedics lenses like me :D

Where can you get the lenses?

Just sign up here: http://coopervision.com.my/trial-lenses

But please hurry because the trial period is limited and will end on 30th April 2014.

Product Launch: Wilson Redefines Tennis Racquet Design with Spin Effect Technology

For Tennis aficionados out there, it's time to put down your Tennis racquets and pick up the new Wilson racquets equipped with the new Spin Effect Technology, namely Juice, Steam, Pro Staff and Blade.

Juice, Steam, Blade and Pro Staff, all equipped with the latest SET

These new Tennis racquets recently made its debut in Malaysia, and Indian tennis star, Rohan Gajjar and Malaysian number one, Si Yiew Ming were among tennis enthusiasts present at the National Tennis Centre here to test and experience Wilson’s groundbreaking SET racquets that offers outrageous power and massive spin.

They also had the opportunity to check their tennis prowess by taking a test in the Wilson SET Trackman – a technology to increase the spin rate, power, speed and the distance of the player’s shot.

Also present was Mirzan Tun Mahathir, Chairman of Tennis Malaysia and President of the Kuala Lumpur Lawn Tennis Association. Commenting on the racquets, Mirzan said the ability to spin the ball faster can help players perform better, adding that the introduction of the new technology is something that all tennis players look forward to. “We welcome the association with Wilson and their latest Spin Effect Technology, as it is our intention to bring tennis to a higher level in Malaysia,” noted Mirzan.

According to Mike Miringoff, Regional Business Manager of APAC, one of Wilson’s biggest successes of the past year has been the introduction of SET to some of the racquets in their current line. “Our carefully researched Spin Effect Technology has three main benefits to players – more margin for error over the net which means hitting higher over the net, hitting harder whilst keeping the ball in the court and better control of the ball so you can hit sharper angles,” explained Miringoff.

Rohan and Yiew Ming agreed that today’s tennis game has changed dramatically and is all about aggressive spin, noting that this advancement will bring increased spin potential to a wider audience and will improve their game.

Apart from the launch of the Wilson racquets with SET, we were also introduced to their new range of Tennis Shoes, the Rush Pro (which, unfortunately, is only available in men's sizes)

The Rush Pro is a new approach to building tennis footwear that provides a lower to the ground court feel, a more comfortable performance, feel/fit and added lateral stability for improved on-court movement.

Not to mention the design is sleek and classy too! It is super lightweight, therefore it provides superior cushioning in the heel, and improved rebound in the fore foot for faster response.

I am loving the new Rush Pro series, and the SET racquets promises to rack up more spin! Tennis lovers, this is one technology that you should not miss!!!

To celebrate the women out there, be it moms, grandmoms, daughters, friends, wives, girlfriends, or your best friend, they have been, since time immemorial, been the pillars of strength for many successes. Since ancient times, women were rarely offered opportunities to work and learn.

Yet, their inner strength can still be seen through their roles of giving birth to new life, taking care and protecting their family. But as time passed, women began demonstrating their capabilities in undertaking more responsibilities, raising a family as well as being part of the workforce and contributing to social welfare.

As evolution enhanced the confidence level of every woman allowing them to showcase their inner strength, they still recognised the importance of physical beauty and strive to maintain their outer beauty through various means.

As a means of acknowledging and recognising the efforts of all women, Shizens will be launching a “Stand Firm Stay Firm” campaign from April 2 to April 30, 2014 where customers and fans will stand to win loads of attractive prizes by displaying their inner strength and outer beauty through a photo contest.

Review + Giveaway: Go Wild with The Wild Things!

Hey guys, how have you all been doing? I hope the water rationing has not dampened your moods one bit, considering that it's been a while now that it's been going on, and rumour has it that the water shortage might very well happen all the way to September! *gasp* But let's not worry about that today, for today I am here to raise your moods! Stay on til the end of the post and I have something exciting for you guys!

Source: my insta :)

If you've been following me on Insta, you would have seen that I absolutely love charm bracelets. My most prized possession is my Thomas Sabo charm bracelet that le bb got for me last Christmas, and I have been using it on off ever since :)

Now, most of you have most probably heard of Pandora Charm Bracelets as well (if you haven't, it's time for you to come out from under that rock you've been living under), and they're also a very exclusive brand that offers charm bracelets, albeit of a different nature. Their price range is also around the price range as TS bracelets, so you can say that they're pretty high end. Truth be told, I am quite unwilling to part with my money to buy Pandora Charms, so I have been searching high and low for online stores (or at flea markets) for Pandora Inspired Charm Bracelets.

And, that was how I found The.Wild.Things :D TWT was launched in March 2013 bringing different chapters in life, all speaking of fun and having a trendy assortment of accessories. One of their specialties is the Handmade By The.Wild.Things, whereby they custom make accessories specially for you, and one of them is, incidentally, the Pandora Inspired bracelets!!!!! *love love it* If you love accessories and want to have the option to customise it, this is definitely the thing for you!

A collection of some of the charm bracelets they have sold

They sell really good quality Pandora Inspired Charm Bracelets, and their charms are really quite affordable too. I've found charms for sale at flea markets for RM10-18 apiece, but TWT only sells them for RM4!

Because they were having a promotion that time, I actually got another free gift from them, which was a butterfly charm!

When I opened up the case, I fell in love with my charms immediately. They were all very good quality charms, and you could see that they were different from the other types of Pandora Inspired charms that you can see out there in flea markets or pasar malams. The charms had a solid weight to it, and you can see that they are higher end than most charms from other sellers out there.

As I loved her charms, I took quite a few, like the snowflake, music note, and the cat. I also took the bow as well, and as you can see from the bottom pic, the free butterfly charm that she gave me. The charm bracelet I have is interspersed with different coloured spacers and diamond beads, so it gave a colourful and versatile look to my bracelet.

One of the great things that TWT does is that they give you the option of customising the charms, spacers, beads, and dangles that you want, so the end product is something that you know you will love! For me, I had a mixture of blue, red, pink, and purple, four of my favourite colours. I use this almost as often as I use my TS bracelet, and I always feel good using it.

Apart from creating customised bracelets, they also create themed Charm bracelets, one of which is the Frozen theme:

Isn't it nice? too bad I missed out on this :( would really love to have it

They have a lot more different charms where that came from, just browse here: *click*

But that's not all. If you were to scroll through their FB page, you would see another section under Chapters. Just like a book, every chapter tells a different story. Discover chapters of style from classic vintage, ethnic, bohemian, punk rocker, elegant to sophisticated.

Chapter 1: Aztec

These chapters come in batches every six months, and they offer trendy fashion jewelry and accessories, such as necklaces, bracelets, rings, and hair accessories.

Chapter 2: Enchanted

Their products are carefully handpicked from suppliers around Asia, and also designer handcrafted ones that adds specialty to their one of a kind collection.

Chapter 2: Grave Creepers

Kiehl's Fun in the Sun!

$

Hey guys, how have you all been doing? it's already June, and already half of the year has flown by! my my it's been a tiring journey, but no fret, we still have half of the year left to do something meaningful to make this an awesome 2014 to remember!

Do you guys recall, how I had my beauty resolution, and one of them was to be less lazy with my daily and nightly skincare regime. Whilst I have faltered once or twice, I have been diligent in getting my skin ready for sleep, and also ready to face the day the past half year. And so, I'm running out of my moisturiser!

I think this is a blessing in disguise, because The Butterfly Project has actually answered my prayers and are holding this event for butterflies to cool down and stay fresh with Kiehl's :D

So let's see, why do I need 24 hour no-shine fresh hydration?
I have combination-oily skin, so sometimes it's really a chore to find a product that is good enough for your skin that is able to keep the shine at bay while also keeping your skin moisturised at the same time. With most face creams that I have been using, they've either been not moisturised enough, or not able to keep my skin from becoming oily by the time half day comes rolling around.  So, I hope that I will be able to try the latest product in Kiehl's skincare stable, the Ultra Facial Oil-Free Gel Cream! As it is formulated for normal to oily skin types, I have a feeling this is one bosom buddy I will love to keep close!

You guys know what I love about Kiehl’s?
It's the awesome brand reputation that they have. I have heard so many good things about Kiehl's and they have always delivered their products as per what they have claimed. When I had acne skin last time, I consulted the Kiehl's SA, and they recommended me products which actually made my acne skin better. There are very few skincare products out there that actually deliver, and this is something that I have always admired in Kiehl's. Not to mention, they are always very generous in giving out samples of their products, and do not mind to let you try it out first before making the conscious decision to purchase. This tells me that they are confident in their product that they are not afraid to let you try it out free of charge, because they know that you will love it and come back for more :D

I really hope that I will be able to join the other butterflies this weekend with Kiehl's, and I look forward to put on my sunnies while hanging out with the coolest people I know :)

Til the next time, stay beautiful!
